Why did we vote YES to form our union?

NUPU-UE is an organization by and for postdocs and research associates at Northwestern who are coming together to improve our working conditions and strengthen the research enterprise. We come from diverse backgrounds and work across disciplines, but we are united by a shared commitment to research and a common goal: to ensure that postdocs and research associates are treated with fairness, dignity, and respect. 

A key step in winning this fairness, dignity and respect was forming our union. Learn why, in August of 2025, postdocs and research associates voted 97.5% in favor of forming NUPU.
